A Call to Christians: Why We Must Stand Against SJ247

Virginia’s SJ247 seeks to enshrine “reproductive freedom” as a constitutional right. Supporters present it as progress, but the truth is this amendment tears down God-given order, undermines parental authority, and endangers the most vulnerable among us—our children.

As Christians, leaders, fathers, husbands, and shepherds of our communities, we cannot ignore what is at stake. Scripture calls us to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Proverbs 31:8). This is our moment to stand.

A Threat to God’s Design for Families

SJ247 eliminates parental consent, allowing minors to undergo abortions or gender-altering procedures without their parents’ knowledge. God entrusted parents with the responsibility of raising, guiding, and protecting their children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). This amendment strips away that sacred role and hands it to the state.

Disregard for the Sanctity of Life

The amendment expands late-term abortion access, permitting it under vague “mental health” exceptions. This effectively opens the door to abortion at any stage of pregnancy. As believers, we know every life is knit together by God in the womb (Psalm 139:13). To remain silent while innocent lives are threatened is to abdicate our calling as protectors.

Weakening Accountability and Authority

By lowering oversight from three physicians to just one, SJ247 erodes safeguards designed to prevent abuse and neglect in life-and-death decisions. Leadership in the home, church, and community carries accountability before God. How much more should we demand accountability in matters of life?

Our Moral Duty to Act

This is not simply a political debate—it is a spiritual battle. Fathers and husbands are called to guard their homes. Pastors and Christian leaders are called to shepherd their flocks. The church is called to be salt and light in a culture drifting into darkness.

To ignore SJ247 is to ignore our biblical mandate. Silence in the face of evil is complicity.
